Part of getting this right is also about choosing the appropriate sample. Some are super long. If you have an active kick pattern, choose a shorter 808. If your kick is less active, you can probably get away with a longer sample, but those aren’t good for complex bass lines.

For metal music, I recommend getting a solid state amp because, while tubes can certainly achieve a heavy sound, at high levels of distortion for long periods of time, solid state amps are much more reliable. You don’t have to rely on the amp’s own effects so much, since in metal you’re likely to have more than a few pedals in your chain, but its electronics need to handle the load. Here are some of my favorite choices for playing metal music:
Once you’ve written a percussion part on a kit with isolated instruments, you’ll be able to add different effects for each instrument. For example, thick reverb might not work when it’s applied to an entire organic drum kit, but can bring out a compelling new character when it’s only added to your snare for example. This is a crucial step you shouldn’t skip.

Speaking of international recognition, while they may not be an electronic group, per se, Kokono No.1’s approach to technology is reminiscent to early Suicide records, and they exist in a world of their own. At the core of their sound is three electric likembé combined to make a single instrument that is then amplified through home made speakers that illuminates its sound with cracks, pops, and hisses. Their frenetic energy and multitude of singers on each track makes you feel as if you’ve stumbled across them on the streets of Kinshasa.
I can spend an ungodly amount of time shopping, especially at Buffalo Exchange, simply because the music is good. Here, you’ll find vintage, funky threads, hats, jewelry, costumes, coats, etc. If you have some time and need a cute outfit for a night on the town, then definitely make a pit stop here (but be prepared to stay longer than you initially planned). You’ll find a cool outfit while listening to the soundtrack of your life.
